Boston Blades Find Depth, Scoring Touch in Draft Class of 2016

The Boston Blades are proud to announce the Draft Class of 2016.

With the first pick of the first round in the CWHL Draft, Blades General Manager Krista Patronick selected forward Kayla Tutino, former captain at Boston University. Tutino, a native of Lorraine, Quebec, registered 63 goals and 81 assists for 144 points in 164 games in her college career.

Patronick went on to select forward Chelsey Goldberg of Northeastern University in the second round and Cassandra Opela, a defenseman from University of Connecticut in the third. Goldberg registered 13 career points in 90 games played at Northeastern. Opela, a stay at home defenseman, registered 3 assisted in 100 games played at UConn.

???These players will provide the Blades with much needed depth, both up front and in the defensive zone,?۝ said Patronick. ???This draft class has a lot of speed and the ability to score. I?۪m looking forward to seeing how well they?۪ll work together.?۝

Rounding out the top five, Patronick selected forwards Meghan Grieves from Boston College (45 career points in 152 games) and Dakota Woodworth of Boston University (31 career points in 151 games).

Patronick selected forward Margaret Zimmer of University of Connecticut in the sixth round. Zimmer registered 33 career points at UConn in 143 games.

Patronick went on to select two blue-liners: Kikuchi Sato of Tokyo, Japan and Taylor McGee of Holy Cross. Boston College forwards Melissa Bizzari and Kate Leary in the tenth and eleventh rounds, respectively.
